Not long ago, childhood looked very different.
I grew up during the exact moment the digital world took over — when social media, smartphones, and online culture quietly reshaped how kids saw themselves, each other, and the world. Instead of simply growing up alongside it, I learned to step back and observe it. Through school, work, and years of personal study, I watched how attention, confidence, and identity were slowly being influenced by screens, trends, and constant comparison.
I remember a time before it all — when confidence was natural, mirrors weren’t tools for judgment, and friendships existed without constant digital awareness. Then Instagram arrived. Snapchat became how we communicated. Anxiety followed. Validation shifted outward. Crushes turned into obsession. Being seen became more important than being present.
And while kids were trying to make sense of it, parents were left navigating something completely new — without a map.
My own parents experienced this firsthand. They immigrated to Canada before I was born, already adapting to a new culture, when the digital shift arrived and changed everything again. They parented through a world they had never known, at a time when conversations about mental health, online influence, and emotional awareness were barely beginning.
Today, I see the same quiet panic rising again — this time in a new generation of parents.
Parents wondering if they’re saying the right thing.
If being too strict will push their child away.
If being too relaxed will leave them unprotected.
If they truly know what’s happening at school, with friends, and online.
I hear these questions constantly — from family, friends, and online communities. And for years, I’ve found myself offering guidance rooted in lived experience, observation, and understanding how kids actually think and respond in this digital age.
Her Hidden Lounge was created to bring calm to that uncertainty.
